Regional workshop on the construction of dams on the Nile was held in Khartoum, Sudan for three days. The workshop, from January 19-21, 2008, was organized by the Sudanese National Discourse Forum in collaboration with the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, and the NBI.

More than one hundred participants drawn from representatives of civil society organizations, private sector, NBI Institutions and Governments of the Nile basin countries attended the workshop.

Two staff from the secretariat of Christian Relief and Development Association (CRDA) secretariat attended the workshop.

Participants conducted meticulous discussions on various issues based on the papers presented at the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, the participants were unanimously agreed the urgent need to address the future challenges regarding the construction of large dams on the Nile.

Participants ensured that more sustainable development, optimize benefits from the utilization of Nile resources for all riparian states, and to enhance poverty reduction in the basin.
