Urban Renewal Committee on a move to Decide set up
The Addis Ababa Civil Society Urban Renewal Committee, established as a steering
committee in August 2005 and merged with the CRDA’s Urban Development Forum in October 2006, is currently
investigating workable organizational set up and designing strategy to address main findings of its major
research work on “The Consequences of Condominium Housing in Addis Ababa: with a focus on Housing Access
to the Poorest in the City Project in Addis Ababa.”
According to the Coordinating Office of the Steering Committee, the research carried out last year from
February to October 2007 to assess the potential impacts of the condominium project revealed that the
project doesn’t prove to be affordable, accessible to the urban poor. The research had outlined possible
recommendations and alternative solutions to benefit the poor.
The organizational set up currently under consideration is expected to enable the committee realize these
objectives. The committee has national and international Non-Governmental Organization members working on
common objectives.
The research paper is documented at the Resource Center of
the CRDA.
