Participants of the Extraordinary Membership Meeting of March 7, 2008 at CRDA Hall unanimously approved the nomination of 40 new NGOs/CSOs as members of Christian Relief and Development Association (CRDA), which brings membership up to 321.

The explanation presented by the Membership Development Committee organized as a sub committee of the board two months ago for the purpose showed that except four international organizations, the rest of the new entrants are local NGOs/CSOs working in various parts of the country on diverse social issues. The selection among applicants involved a thorough screening process.

According to the CRDA’s membership procedure, any NGO/CSO who wants to be a member of CRDA at least need to have valid certificate of registration from the Ministry of Justice and an Operational Agreement with Federal or Regional Government Office of Disaster and Prevention and Preparedness Agency or Bureaus.

The Chair of Membership Development Committee told the meeting that the full-fledged programmatic, technical, material and financial capacity building support of CRDA in nurturing and building Civil Society organizations in Ethiopia has created strong urge for membership among number of local and International NGOS/CSOs. Considering the limited capacity of the association the Committee has selected only 40 prospects.

On the other hand two NGOs, Africare Ethiopia and Inter Aid France have cancelled their membership.
