Training on CoC, Accountability Conducted
An international training and experience sharing workshop on NGO code of conduct and accountability was
held here at the Secretariat from 13-15, December, 2010. The three-day training in which 30 trainees
participated was organized by the Capacity Building Team of CCRDA in collaboration with Dan Church Aid
(DCA) and Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP)....
CCRDA’s 5th Program Plan Formulation Nearing Finalization
The formulation of CCRDA’s fifth program plan that runs from 2011-2015 is nearing completion and will be
presented to membership for discussion and approval. According to information obtained from the Program
Planning Technical Committee, the 5th program plan shall serve as a guiding compass for the overall
operations of the Consortium during the next five years....

A glimpse at Development Interventions of Sasakawa Africa Association
Founded by Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, Royoichi Sasakawaa a Japanese philanthropist and former US
President Jimmy Carter Sasakawaa Africa Association (SAA) is a joint venture of two organizations; i.e,
SAA and the Global 2000 Program of Carter Center. SAA began to establish collaborative projects with
African governments in 1984. Over the years, it had operated in 15 Sub-Saharan African nations and
currently it is actively operating in four African countries including Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria and
Uganda. Over the years, SAA (SG 2000) country projects helped finance more than 500,000 demonstration
plots, involving over 5 million smallholder farmers directly and indirectly. On 0.25 to 0.5 hectare
demonstration plots, participating farmers obtained yields in maize, rice, wheat, millet, sorghum, grain
legumes, roots and tubers that were two to three times their traditional level of production....

REGIONAL TRAINING IN HIV/AIDS SHOWS PROMISE IN 3 COUNTRIES
THIS was revealed in a regional dissemination workshop attended by over 50 participants from 3 countries,
held in Nairobi on 18 and 19 March 2010 at the Nairobi Safari Club.
The workshop was organized by the ARCAN project to share lessons learned, achievements, challenges
encountered, and propose the way forward when the project comes to a close on April 30, 2010. The project
was jointly executed in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania with funding from the World Bank through the
Government of Tanzania.

Civil Society Taskforce Deliberates on Draft Directive
1200 Charities, Societies Successfully Re-registered till December 31, 2009
Christian Relief and Development Association (CRDA) hosted a consultative meeting between high-ranking
officials of the newly established Charities and Societies Agency (CSA) and taskforce of Civil Society (CS)
on draft directive that stipulates the re-registration of consortium of charities/societies on December 30,
CRDA – Packard Program Grants over 35,000 Educational Books to Youth Initiatives in SNNPR
The Christian Relief and Development Association (CRDA) –Packard Foundation Joint Program donated 35,000
educational books valued at nearly 2 million Birr to youth centers and school clubs found in five zones of
the South National, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR).
The donation of the books took place at a handing-over ceremony organized at the Resource Center of CRDA,
located at Kaliti sub district, on December 3, 2009.....

Ministry says Committed to Ensure Smooth Transition to and Implementation of the New NGO Law
Ato Jimma Dilbo, Head of Association Registration at the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) says his office is
committed to ensure smooth transition of one-year period and implementation of the new charities and
societies legislation 621/2009.
This was disclosed in a briefing meeting organized by CRDA on May 6, 2009 at its hall between MOJ official
and the association members to discuss on transition related concerns and lack of charities on the
implementation of the law.
The statement sent by H.E Ato Berhanu Tsegaye, State Minister of MOJ and read out by Ato Jimma Dilbo also
indicated that the introduction of the charity and societies legislation has brought members of CRDA and
the civil society to the ministry more closer than ever. The promulgation of the proclamation enables to
have sector focused and more relevant law that better govern the NGO sector with its detail internal
affairs. This is a great stride towards transforming and supporting the sector.......
Africa Rikai, a Japanese NGO Celebrates Cultural Day, with Karrayyu Students
Africa Rikai, a Japanese NGO established with a theme of “Understanding Africa” and currently operating on

DPPA and Partners Declare a Net Requirement of 41,684 MT Humanitarian Aid for 2008
The Federal Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (DPPA) and partners declared that based on a
series of humanitarian need assessment carried out in various parts of the country a total of 171,646 MT
of humanitarian assistance is needed in 2008 to feed 2.18 million people. Of these 137,106 Mt is from

On June 2nd, the new version of www.thewaterchannel.tv was
launched. TheWaterChannel is a dedicated web-based video channel on water. It wants to be a main repository
for video material on water and a main support and medium in promoting better water management.
TheWaterChannel now contains over 150 water related videos with new material coming in daily. The new
version has several improved features and much more functions including improved uploading services,

The new draft Charities and Societies Act has become the most topical issue among the Ethiopian civil
society, member and non-members of CRDA alike. This comes as no surprise, taking into account the fact
that the draft law shows, both in the drafting process and in substance, a radical departure from
previous attempts on the part of the Ministry of Justice to come up with a law for the regulation of
CSOs/NGOs in Ethiopia...

eight to ten member delegation of Germen Parliament will visit CRDA on February 25, 2008 as part of
